Auteur de plus de 680 buts en carrière, il est le meilleur buteur de la Ligue des champions de l'UEFA, des coupes d'Europe, du Real Madrid, du derby madrilène, de la Coupe du monde des clubs de la FIFA et de la sélection portugaise. Il est le seul joueur avec Lionel Messi à avoir remporté le Ballon d'or européen.

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on the island of Madeira and grew up in the nearby parish of Santo António. His mother wanted to abort him due to poverty, his father's alcoholism and having too many children already, but her doctor refused to perform the procedure. Ronaldo played for Andorinha from 1992 to 1995 and later spent two years with Nacional. In 1997, aged 12, he went on a three-day trial with Sporting CP, who signed him for £1,500.
